Odisha Chief Secretary lays foundation stone for permanent infrastructure of Bhubaneswar unit of NCCBM

Bhubaneswar(23/10/2022): Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra on Sunday laid the foundation stone to construct permanent infrastructure of Bhubaneswar unit of National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM) at Mancheswar Industrial Estates, Bhubaneswar in presence of Dr.Bibekananda Mahapatra, Director General, NCCBM, Dr.S K Chaturvedi, Secretary NCCBM, Dr.B.Pandu Ranga Rao, Unit In Charge NCCBM Hyderabad & Bhubaneswar.

 

Te Chief Scretary congratulated Bibekananda Mahapatra and NCCBM for taking such an initiative in Odisha and bringing this to Odisha. This With the help of Government of Odisha we have provided this plan for construction of the upcoming research lab, which is going to be setup in last one and halp year time. This is going be a game changer not only for Odisha government but also for industries that are operating in Odisha. In Odisha, we have large number of Industries which have come in last few years, especially in steel, aluminum, fertilizer and so many other sectors who are generating huge amount of waste materials like slag, fly ash, gypsum and so many other types of waste materials, but now with the research of NCCBM we are able to use them in cement industries.    

 

Anurag Jain, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India thanked the Government of Odisha for providing support for establishment of NCCBM Unit at Bhubaneshwar. HE ADDED, I called upon the leadership of NCCBM to proactively fulfil additional responsibilities entrusted to them by setting up of this Unit. I sincerely hope that the project will be completed within the stipulated time and sanctioned cost.

Post the ceremony the guests and dignitaries visited the Cement and Building Material’s Mechanical testing, Chemical analysis, Concrete mix proportioning lab, Concrete-Non-Destructive Testing laboratory facilities at NCCBM Bhubaneswar followed by plantation of Saplings in the NCCBM Bhubaneswar premises.

 

NCCBM is an autonomous Research & Development Institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, with its corporate office at Ballabgarh (Delhi NCR) and units at Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar.

 

 

Shashank Priya, Special Secretary & Financial Adviser, Ministry of Commerce & industry, Government of India, expressed his happiness and said, the expansion of NCCBM unit has come at a very opportune time when the entire country is witnessing an unprecedented development and growth in the various industrial sectors and thus India becoming a role model for rest of the world for economic strengthening and progress. The country is looking forward for rapid industrialisation following the path of "lndustry 4.0 and Industry 5.0" and the setting up a permanent unit of NCCBM at Bhubaneshwar will make significant contribution towards the development of infrastructure and society in the eastern part of the country.

 

Dr.BN Mohapatra, Director General, NCCBM informed about the benefits of expansion of NCCBM’s Bhubaneswar unit to the state of Odisha and entire eastern region of India. NCCBM Bhubaneswar unit can provide Third Party Quality Assurance services in construction sector for Buildings, Roads, Bridges, Tunnels & other utility projects to enhance quality, productivity and cost effectiveness. Bhubaneswar unit can also provide the technical services in assessment of old structures, identifying the retrofitting measures, concrete mix proportioning, etc.

Earlier, NCCBM provided Third party quality assurance services to Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) during 2001-2010 and to IDCO during 2016-2021. Now, NCCBM is providing TPQA services to ULBs of Housing & Urban Development Department, National Building Construction Corporation and other government entities in the state of Odisha.

 

As Odisha is having huge quantity of industrial wastes like Phosphogypsum, Fly Ash, Red mud and slag; hence research can be done for the maximum utilization of this materials in both cement and construction sector. The ISO 17025:2017 NABL accredited physical and chemical laboratories of NCCBM Bhubaneswar will cater to the 14 cement plants & grinding units of Odisha for testing of all the raw materials, in-process materials, cement and fresh & hardened concrete sample testing. Bhubaneswar unit can undertake skill development training programs for construction trade workers in the region to develop competency and productivity in human resources.

 

Recently, NCCBM has signed MoUs with premier educational institutes in the state of Odisha like IIT Bhubaneswar, KIIT DU, Ravenshaw University, Sambalpur University and NIT Rourkela, for involvement of PhD research scholars in industrial oriented R&D projects at NCCBM, to provide  a platform   for   academia-industry-research institute interaction, for getting site work exposure promoting  beneficiation of students, and resource sharing between the organizations to get the maximum resource utilization.

 

The construction of new research & laboratory facility of NCCBM at Mancheswar Industrial Estates, Bhubaneswar will commence soon and is expected to be complete in 18 months. Green building technologies will be imbibed during the construction.
